A Message from the Pastor

“The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”   (1 Corinthians 1: 18)

Grace and peace to you!  I’m glad you have chosen to visit our website for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Asheboro, NC.  Lutherans are part of the one, holy, universal and apostolic Church established by Jesus Christ.  Our faith is centered on Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Savior of the world.  We look to the Bible as the inspired Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and life.

The name “Lutheran” comes from Martin Luther, the reformer of the Church in the 1500’s.  Luther taught we are “justified by grace through faith, for the sake of Jesus Christ.”  We believe, confess and teach that we cannot do anything to earn our salvation by our own works but instead we are saved and put right with God by God’s grace through the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross.

Lutherans have been living, worshiping and ministering in North Carolina since the 1700’s when many left their homeland in Germany to get a fresh start in America.  Lutherans have been present here in Randolph County as early as 1776.

St. John’s began in 1938 when five Lutheran pastors from the Eastern District of the North Carolina Synod made a survey of the area and discovered that enough interest existed to organize a church.  St. John’s held its first service in Asheboro on Reformation Sunday, October 30, 1938.  Since that time we have grown in numbers and in our faith.  Our mission is “Worshiping and Witnessing for Christ.”  All age groups are active at St. John’s.  We come together each Sunday for worship and Sunday School to praise God, deepen our faith lives and receive nourishment and strength to go into the world in witness and proclaim the message of the cross – the salvation offered to us through Jesus Christ.  We invite you to come and be a part of our church family.

                                                                                                                 Yours in Christ,

                                                                                                                  Pastor Ralph Kraft
