THE YOUTH OF ST.
JOHN'S LUTHERAN

The youth of St. John's get together regularly
for fun, fellowship, and service. Some recent activities include a pool
party, a canoe trip, "Trunk or Treat" at Halloween, planning an Easter egg hunt
for the children, and just hanging out in the church's side yard to play
volleyball. The youth also participate in service activities such as "Hands On
Day" and visiting our shut-ins, as well as regularly serving as acolytes and
crucifers during our worship services.
Beginning in the middle of sixth grade, all youth participate in Confirmation, a
two-and-a-half year journey of self-discovery and learning about one's
relationship with the Lord and about Lutheran beliefs and traditions. A
highlight of the Confirmation process is Campfirmation, a week-long stay at Lutherock, a
camp in the North Carolina mountains. After the required classes and activities
are completed, the confirmands are interviewed by Church Council members, then
make a public profession of faith before the congregation during the Rite of
Confirmation, normally held on Reformation Sunday in late October.
